In some religion, a human being is worshiped as God. Absolutely fine. It was argued that worshiping a human being is against Hindu religion. This is also absolutely fine. Nonetheless, are not we told in schools/colleges/text books to worship our parents/elders...(a human being)? But who is worshiping Modi? Har-Har Modi should be seen as a symbolic love and affection of Modi supporters as they see some qualities in Modi. It should not be dragged into controversy. The word "Har-Har" is not copyrighted anyway. If tomorrow, someone chants or says Modi as “Mahatama” or a great soul, controversy will erupt and probably the poor fellow will be booked under National Security Act (NSA) and put behind bars. Rebirth theories will not hold in Modi's case. What else, it is a matter of documented proof that if someone even praises Modi, that becomes a matter of ‘hot discussion’. Recall what happened when Amitabh Bachchan agreed to advertise about Gujarat tourism? Or recall what happened when Anna Hazare praised Modi during his fast at Delhi? The entire conglomerate of 'intellectuals' and specifically Media pounded on Hazare as how he can praise Modi. Or recall when Darul Uloom vice-chancellor, Maulana Ghulam Mohammed Vastanvi, said that all communities are prospering in Narendra Modi's Gujarat and there was no discrimination against the minorities in the state as far as development was concerned. The certificate holder of secularism went berserk and Media provided fuel to it.
As it seems, you are on wrong side if you praise Modi, in whatever form. I recall George Bush’s (America president) statement when he said after twin-tower attack, “You are either with us or with the terrorist” and this exactly has been the life of Modi. You will become communal by default if your dare praise Modi. However, on the other side which is equally baffling, if someone defames Modi by comparing him with Hitler, frog, ghost, impotent, Bhasmasur, and what not, it is absolutely fine with our Media and to our so called ‘intellectual people’. It has come to an extent that one's secular credentials are being judged on whether he/she has criticized Modi or not. If you want to prove yourself as secular, start your words as, "In 2002 riot in which..."; If you have to talk on India's growing population problem, start with, "see, after 2002 riots, these communities felt that their population is less..."; and if you want to talk on India's economic problem, say, "had the 2002 riots not happened...". Somehow try to drag in 2002 riots and Eureka! You proved yourself a 'true secular'. If this is the yardstick, then many leading English media (and their affiliated Hindi media) will fall into the category of 'hard-core secular'.
Its painful if you are surrounded by people who ‘criticise’ you all the time for whatever you say or do. But remember, if you want to become a Super Achiever, you need to pass through the Agini-Pariksha at some point of your life… Jai ho!
