Credit Score Masthead Animation

To boost awareness of PhonePe’s free credit score feature,

I created a Lottie animation rooted in cricket season energy.

It lifted engagement by 4%, showing how contextual

storytelling and motion can bring product value to life.

Problem Statement

PhonePe had launched a Free Credit Score feature, but many users were unaware it even existed. With a diverse user base and limited space in the app’s real estate, the challenge was:

How can we use the masthead space effectively to grab attention, educate users, and drive engagement — all within seconds?

Users

All tiers of PhonePe’s user base

across India (Tier 1–4), including financially curious but digitally cautious segments.

Goal

Use motion + contextual storytelling to drive awareness and engagement around the credit score feature.

My Role

  • Collaborated with Product & D2C team to define the communication strategy

  • Worked with UX/UI to understand masthead constraints and responsiveness

  • Partnered with Motion Design to develop lightweight, engaging Lottie animations

  • Led ideation, storyboarding, and delivery of production-ready assets

Process

1. Stakeholder Alignment

  • Understood business need from the D2C and Product team

  • Clarified limitations of masthead space from the UX team

  • Explored Lottie animation capabilities and file size/performance boundaries

2. Creative
Concepting

  • Noticed the IPL season overlap — a major cultural moment in India

  • Proposed a cricket-themed concept:

  • A batsman hits the ball

  • The ball travels through the air

  • The final frame reveals “Check your credit score for free” on the scoreboard.

3. Design and
Motion Execution

  • Created storyboards & keyframes

  • Designed for performance and reusability

  • Delivered the final Lottie file, optimized for quick app load and visual clarity

Outcome

  • 4% increase in credit score feature traction

  • Higher-than-average CTR on masthead banner

  • Sparked further experiments with Lottie animation in-app across different surfaces
